Coffee morning in aid of relief in the Philippines

A coffee morning to raise much needed funds for Goal Emergency Disaster response in the Philippines will take place tomorrow - Saturday November 23 - between from 10 am and 12 noon in The Church Restaurant on Castle Street.

The coffee morning will be an informal chance for people to coffee and a cake, and most importantly, to donate to a very worthy cause.

There will be a raffle on the day with great prizes donated from local businesses.

Brian Fagan from Brian’s Treasure Chest, who is currently in Ethiopia for a number of weeks to help with aid work said: “This really is a catastrophe. We can’t grasp what people must be going through in the Philippines but the support and generosity that has been shown by the people of Mullingar to date is amazing”.

One of the event organisers, Dep Robert Troy, also commented: “The extent of the devastation is beyond our imagination and people in Westmeath genuinely have special warmth for the FiIipino community.

“Many members of our community are provided with the highest level of care by nurses and care assistants from the Philippines.

“We simply can’t comprehend what some families are facing in the Philippines and anything that we can do nationally and locally to show our support must be done “
