Hospital car park takes in €1.7m in five years

It might not be very popular with the public, but paid for parking is certainly a valuable source of revenue for the HSE with the car park at the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar alone generating almost €1.7m in income between 2008 and 2012.
According to figures obtained by the Westmeath Examiner from the HSE, visitors to Mullingar hospital spent €1,668,000 on parking over the course of five years with €330,000 spent in 2012; €337,000 in 2011; €338,000 in 2010; €359,000 in 2009 and €304,000 in 2008.
The running costs for the car park, which is managed by the hospital, were €108,000 and €97,000 respectively in 2012 and 2011.
The car park at the HSE’s other hospitals in the midlands were equally as lucrative in 2012 with €455,504 income generated at Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore; €368,566 at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise and €172,081 at Naas General Hospital.
