Council's €10m plan for Mullingar sports centre

The Robinstown Sport and Educational Campus remains a priority for Westmeath County Council, which has a three-year projected spend of €10,500,000.

The figures were announced at a full council meeting yesterday, Monday January 27, under the Three Year Capital Programme 2014-2016.

Overall, this year, the council hopes to spend €500,000 on recreational pitches, followed by €5m in 2015, and another €5m in 2016.

This year’s work will be carried out with the assistance of the Sports Capital Grant.

County manager Barry Kehoe said that a new scheme had opened up under the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, and a number of applications for the funding will be made under this also.

He warned, however, that the figures quoted were projected figures only, and are not “real money in any terms”.
