Deadline looms for St Patrick’s Day Parade entries

The closing date for entries for this year’s Mullingar St Patrick’s Day parade is fast approaching. According to the Parade Chairperson, Cll Ruth Illingworth groups or firms interested in taking part in this year’s event, should make contact with the committee before 6pm on Monday next, March 10.
Several major changes have been introduced for this year’s event, with a sustained emphasis on street entertainment in the lead-up to the parade. The new reversed route will see the parade setting off from Millmount Road at 4pm, and turning left onto Austin Friars Street, through the town centre and finishing at Penney’s car park.
The colour party will be made up of members of Post 20 of the UN vets, based here in town, while the ONET will also be participating. Also confirmed as taking part are the Mullingar Town Band and the Athlone Ravens.
Cllr Illingworth confirmed that the street entertainment will be ongoing from 2pm in Mount Street and Castle Street, with bouncy castles, rodeo bulls, as well as a human demolition ball.
There will be music in the Market Square on the day while the Reviewing Stand will be located in its normal position in front of the former Shaw’s Drapery premises.
