Paddy's Day delight for Nevin
John Joe Nevin's professional boxing career got off to a winning start in Boston last night.
The Olympic silver medalist dominated his six round bout against Albert Candalaria from Peurto Rico with all three judges scoring it 59-55 in his favour.
Speaking after the fight, Nevin said that the large Irish contingent in the crowd, which included Marty Mulligan and John Lynch from Mullingar, played a big part.
“The reception was unbelievable. It means so much to me to win on my professional debut on St Patrick’s Day.”
