Mullingar senior karate stars in action in Wales

The men’s senior team from Mullingar Kyokushinkai Karate Club represented Mullingar and Ireland at the recent Welsh Open Knockdown (full-contact karate) tournament in Cardiff recently.

The Mullingar contingent of Sean Murtagh, David Pommer, Alan McCoy, Richard Dunne – coached by sensei Ken Fitzpatrick – fought extremely well in what was a tough tournament, and gave a very good account of themselves.

No trophies were won on this occasion, but the lads brought back invaluable experience and gained credibility for their town and country.

The team prepared well over the last three months, mainly at their Dojo (training hall) at the Parish Centre, Bishopsgate Street, Mullingar. They put in extra strength and conditioning sessions, and travelled to Galway Dojo on Sundays for extra pad work and sparring sessions.

Mullingar Kyokushinkai Karate Club trains twice weekly, and new beginners are always welcome across all age groups, both male and female. For more details, phone 086 167 6358 or 044 933 5891, or log on to www.kyokushinireland.com
