Good2talk marking world mental health weekend october 1012

Good2Talk (G2T) Counselling and Psychotherapy support services will launch a series of free events from Friday October 10 to Sunday October 12 to coincide with World Mental Health Week.

Speaking at the event launch last week, Good2Talk director of services, Pat Gavin said: “It is important for us as a local voluntary community mental health service to promote positive mental health.

“This is a way for us to bring about an awareness of our service and to encourage people in our community to work towards maintaining positive mental health and wellbeing.”

Events begin on Friday October 10 with a coffee morning in Buckley’s SuperValu (10am-2pm).

On Saturday October 11, on Market Square, Mullingar (10am-5pm) Good2Talk will be available to offer support and information in relation to mental health, joined by supporting groups, the American football team, and talented musicians and singers. Their annual street collection also takes place on Saturday.

On Sunday October 12 the free mental health awareness events continue in the Annebrook House Hotel, (2-5pm).

There will be groups and exhibitors presenting ways for you to get involved in positive mental health and wellbeing projects over the winter.

Guest speaker is Fionnbar Walsh (as seen on RTÉ and TV3), author of Donal’s Mountain and founder of the Donal Walsh LIVElife Foundation.

Later that evening is the ‘Live Life -Let it go’ floating lights ceremony in Mullingar Town Park, a moment for people to light a floating candle and place it on the pond in a symbolic gesture of letting go of past difficult experiences and present-day concerns.

It will be a family day and Good2Talk invite all to join them.

Good2Talk is a voluntary organisation located between MABS and Mullingar Garda Station.

Since opening in May 2013, some 420 people have engaged in one-to-one counselling and psychotherapy, from the age of 13 upwards, with issues ranging from depression, anxiety, bullying, trauma, relationships issues, suicide ideation and more.

The Good2Talk mission is to support positive mental health.
