Home Instead Senior Care: The Nursing Home Alternative

Home is a place to feel safe and warm surrounded by the memories that make up a lifetime. Home is the foundation of our lives. A symbol of our families and friends. It's a personal sanctuary of comfort and familiarity. Home is the one place where we can truly be ourselves.

Young and old, we all understand the importance of home. And especially as we age, home is where we want to stay. Time passes and calendars change, but inevitably the moment comes when an adult child starts to wonder: Can Mum stay safe without me? Who will help Dad with his groceries when I'm not around? How can I even start this conversation?
Home care is a very personal and intimate type of care. A home caregiver will deliver one-on-one care and will provide care that matches the needs of the person. A caregiver spends quality time with the person and there is no waiting for help which may happen in an institutionalised care setting.
At Home Instead Senior Care we provide a range of home care services  to help seniors maintain their independence. Home care services are tailored to meet the individual’s needs and preferences and include:

• Companionship
• Housekeeping and laundry
• Meal preparation
• Assist with getting up and going to bed
• Local transportation
• Medication reminders
• Respite care at home
• Emergency short term care
• Personal care
• Assist with continence care and toileting
• Care for people with Dementia, Alzheimer’s, disabilities and chronic health conditions
• Post hospital discharge care
• Convalescence care
• Palliative care

Interestingly, it is estimated that 33% of people in institutional care could live in the community. Frequently, all that is required by those capable of living independently is some basic assistance in daily living activities such as help with personal care like washing and dressing  - all services provided by Home Instead Senior Care. Out and about in the community!

September was a busy month for the staff at Home Instead Senior Mullingar. I had had the pleasure of visiting Mullingar Golf club to present Helen lynch with the winning prize for the Home-Instead sponsored ladies competition. A fantastic night was had by all and thank you to all at Mullingar golf club for such a warm welcome. In addition, Teresa and I each gave warmly received talks to the Coole older person community group. This is a very special group of people who are enjoying life to the full and there weekly meeting packed with bingo, music and dancing is well worth a visit. Teresa also paid a visit to Longford primary care centre to explain the role Home Instead play as part of the older person’s care journey.
At Home Instead we are happy to visit groups throughout the community to share what Home Instead is all about. Also we would be delighted to visit individuals to offer advice and support with care in the home. And finally for your help and support we have created the Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias Daily Companion App as a pocket guide to help get you through all the dementia care situations you likely never dreamed you’d have to face.

You can download this free app now so when you have a question about the best way to handle a situation, you’ll have quick, helpful tips from experts and other caregivers instantly at your fingertips. We also welcome you to visit us at our office in Marlinstown for a chat and a coffee. Alternatively you can call 944 938 5260 or visit www.homeinstead.ie
