Dust off your christmas jumpers

There’s no need to head to Brussels, Germany, or any other such location famed for Christmas Markets, as this year, Mullingar will have its own.

The Market Square and Mount Street are to be turned into something of a winter wonderland, as it’s at these locations that the three-day event will be held.

With the support of Westmeath County Council and Mullingar Chamber of Commerce, the inaugural Christmas extravaganza is the brainchild of a number of Mullingar business people, who met recently to discuss the opportunity of making Mullingar a must-visit town this Christmas.

Taking place from Friday December 19 to Sunday December 21, the Christmas weekend is expected to bring an economic boost to the town in what is the busiest shopping time of the year, with support from the businesses.

Expect the unexpected such as Santa arriving at his grotto by reindeer, a cinema screen showing classic Christmas movies, seasonal scents and sounds, loads of family fun activities and plenty of opportunities to shop till you drop at the Christmas Market brimming with festive gift ideas and treats!

Applications for food and craft vendors from across the midlands and beyond are now being accepted in what will be a unique event for Mullingar.
