The launch took place before a large crowd at The Greville Arms Hotel, and Ronan and Hector - who famously had the country in stitches weekly on Hector's morning radio show as they pored over stories that were headline news in Ireland's  local newspapers - and nowhere else.

The two had the audience at tonight's launch in stitches again, as they discussed the girl who appeared in court for eating an onion ring while driving; the southern Irish county councillor who could not get his local council to take action over the 162 bottles of urine that appeared in a ditch; the sheep rustlers of Cork and Kerry, and all sorts of other yarns culled from the weekly press, including The Westmeath Examiner.

And that was all after Hector's reminiscences about Horseleap - "like Narnia", Delvin, Castlepollard, his debs dance in Mullingar - and the legendary Mullingar filling station proprietor, Millie Walsh.

The book, published by Gill and MacMillan, is flying off the bookshelves, and looks set to enter the Top Ten list within the next week or so.
