Healthy eating with aisling murray from whelehans pharmacy

Eating healthy but not losing weight? This is the final part, part 3, of this article and this week we discuss having a more positive mental attitude towards your weight loss and giving yourself time to achieve goals.

9. You’ve reached a healthy balance.
It may be that your body has reached its “ideal” weight (genetic set point). Reaching this level is generally effortless, but it won’t necessarily correspond to your desired weight. Breaking through your genetic set point can be a challenge as the body has set it and is usually designed to match your body shape. More attention needs to be paid to carbohydrate intake, activity levels, sleep, and reducing stress.

If this point has been reached and you are happy with your results then continuing with your balanced healthy diet is advised.

10. You need a more positive mental attitude
To lose weight and achieve lasting changes to your diet and lifestyle, you must be in a positive frame of mind. Avoid disappointment and getting disheartened by setting achievable realistic goals, for example losing 1-2lbs a week instead of 5lbs a week.

By concentrating on negative actions and outcomes, you are setting yourself up for disappointment and in turn are more likely to abandon weight loss altogether. Stay focused on the goals and achievements you wish to reach.

11.  You’re not getting enough sleep.
Sleep is vital for weight loss as it controls hormones which control your appetite, metabolism, and is a key role in immunity, which you need working adequately if you plan to lose weight.

In order to lose weight successfully your body needs to be working to the best of its ability and it all begins with sleep. There have been many studies which indicate that shortened sleep patterns are linked to weight gain. Try and get seven to eight hours of sleep a night.

12. You haven’t given it enough time.
Everyone is unique which means a healthy eating plan can give some people instant results while others may not see results for a month to six weeks. There is no quick healthy way to lose weight and maintain the results so time is needed in some cases.

Also your weight before you start a new healthier eating plan needs to be considered. An individual who is carrying excess weight will lose it quicker in the beginning (may be losing water) and then weight loss may slow down. Approach healthy eating with the right mind-set and don’t get discouraged if your results are not instantaneous.
