The Kilbeggan Junk Kouture entry

Young fashionistas need your votes by friday

The Junk Kouture teams from Mercy Secondary School in Kilbeggan and St Joseph’s Secondary School in Rochfortbridge have made the semi-finals of the competition – but fans of their work only have until 12 am on Friday to vote for their entries.

The organisers of the event say the teams are suffering from "dress-relief": it may be an awful pun, but what’s not awful is the work the students have put into their creations, which in Kilbeggan is called ‘Colour in the world’ and in Rochfortbridge, ‘Princess Rose’.
The girls join students from Moate Community School and Athlone Community College in the Western regional final at the Royal Theatre Castlebar on March 11. The final, featuring the top 80 dresses, is in the 3Arena, Dublin, on April 24.
The Westmeath finalists are – Mercy Secondary School, Kilbeggan: Colour in the world. St Joseph’s Secondary School, Rochfortbridge: Princess Rose. Moate Community School: Pretty Polly Perfect; Technology Unlocked; Global Goddess; Mediva; Swanderella; and Woven Data. Athlone Community College: Maid of Silver; Let Them Eat Cake; and Fallen Angel. Our Lady’s Bower: Nothing But Net; Fruta de los reyes; Miss Umbrellic; That Auto Do It; Boxed In; Incognito; Spec-tacular; Rose Renaissance; Caution Couture; Disctopian; and Lime and Co. St Joseph’s College: Urban Bird; Truly Puzzling; and Go Conker.
Elizabeth Curran, co-founder of Junk Kouture, said: “Congratulations to the semi-finalists of the Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture Recycled Fashion Competition in association with Repak 2015. The standard this year was exceptionally high, which made our decisions extremely difficult, and the number of entries this year was even greater than years before.”
Conor McGlynn from Bank of Ireland added: “This is our third year with Junk Kouture, and we’re proud to have played a part in growing it from a great initial idea to one of the biggest fashion events in the country, and along with sport and junior enterprise, this fun and creative project really broadens our offering to schools and students.”
The judges responsible for finding the winner of the competition include model Vogue Williams, TV presenter Rob Condon, art and design educator Tracy Fahey and Repak Marketing and Communications manager, Laura Murphy.

10% of each entry's overall result is based on online votes.
