Garda bidding to reunite stolen jewellery with owners

An Garda Síochána has put on display photographs of dozens of pieces of jewellery stolen in residential burglaries across the state, in a bid to reunite them with their owners.

Under Operation Fiacla, the guards are targeting groups involved in residential burglaries nationwide.

“A key aspect of this is the work we put into identifying the persons/groups who receive/purchase the stolen goods,” said a garda spokesperson this week.

“We hope to disrupt the stolen goods markets thereby making it less attractive for thieves to steal in the first place.”

Over 1,000 items of jewellery were recovered as a result of search operation carried out on Sunday 22nd February 2015.

“We are anxious to reunite this property with its rightful owners,” said the garda, adding that while some items are very valuable, the less valuable items may be of immense sentimental value.

The property can be viewed on the Garda Facebook page and the Garda Website www.garda.ie
