Knights of columbanus holding poker classic this friday

This Friday night, the Mullingar council of the Knights of Columbanus will hold their annual poker tournament at the Annebrook House Hotel.

The event is at 8.30 pm and entry costs €25, and there will be freshments served.

The prize is €750, and the profits raised go to charity.

Meanwhile, the Knights are looking forward to having their Supreme Knight, Barry McManus, address a function in Westmeath on Friday of nexy week, May 8.

There are two councils of Knights in Westmeath, one in Athlone, and the other in Mullingar.
The Mullingar council has around 35 members, and the requirements are that members be practising Catholics, and aged over 21, and dedicated to the service of Christ in daily life, in the workplace, the marketplace, in city, urban and provincial areas.
“We are not a secret organisation: we are a fraternal order,” said a local spokesperson, explaining that much of their work consists of raising funds for charity and helping the less well-off.
