Alzheimers tea day may 7

Alzheimer’s Tea Day – May 7

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is holding its biggest annual fundraiser on Thursday, May 7, and is calling on the people of Westmeath to support tea days in their areas.

Tea days in Westmeath on May 7 are in:

1. The Courtyard Kitchen, Enterprise Centre, Bishopsgate Street, Mullingar

2. Coffee Shop, Fore, Castlepollard

3. Athlone Library, Aidan Heavey Library, Civic Centre, Church Street, Athlone

There are 23,800 people living with dementia in Leinster and 900 of those live in Westmeath, a figure set to double in a generation.

All funds raised locally stay local and support Alzheimer services in Westmeath, which include day care, home care and a support group.

Now in its 21st year, the fundraiser has seen thousands of people host tea parties in their homes, offices and schools.

Operations manager of the Northern/West Centre of Operations, Gwen Ryan said: “Last year Alzheimer’s Tea Day raised €430,000 nationally thanks to our wonderful tea day hosts and all those who attended and supported events around the country.

“From this campaign we have made a real and lasting difference to the lives of people living with dementia.

"Alzheimer’s and dementia touches almost every family and every community and all funds raised by Alzheimer’s Tea Day locally stay local and helps to support vital lifelines for people such as day care, home care and a support group.”
