The occupants of this car were lucky not to be seriously injured. Koreen Walsh is also counting her blessings that she was not hurt, despite being in Nepal on the day the first earthquake hit on April 25.

On Sunday June 7, Koreen Walsh and family friends Samantha and Mary Kelly, have organised a fundraising event in the Mullingar Park Hotel.

Starting at noon, there will be everything form tarot and tea leaf reading to facials and Indian head massage, as well as therapies including iridology, cranial sacral therapy, reflexology and reiki.

“All our therapists and readers are donating 100% of their income on the day for us. We have holistic stalls and a charity raffle,” says Samantha Kelly, “It’s going to be a fantastic day.”

The proceeds will be divided between two not-for-profit charities that are working in Nepal.

“One is the Umbrella Foundation, which has a base in Ireland,” says Koreen.
“I met with some of the Irish staff over there doing fantastic work.

"They work against child trafficking and poverty. They have teamed up with GOAL for the relief effort, supplying sanitation, medical supplies, housing.
“The other charity has been set up as a direct response to what happened the earthquake and the damage that happened.

“Three of the guys that I worked with in Chitwan are all from the village where epicentre of the earthquake is, and all their homes and families have been destroyed.

“It’s going directly there to get tents, housing, medical supplies, basic food and water, to that region.”
