Daly elected to Seanad

Westmeath County Council will have to look for a new cathaoirleach following Paul Daly's election to the Seanad.

The Fianna Fail man was elected on the Agricultural Panel, joining Athlone's Gabrielle McFadden (FG) in the Upper House.

With the counting of the votes in the Seanad elections still ongoing, the Westmeath contingent in Leinster House could further increase with Cllrs Aidan Davitt and Aengus O’Rourke still in the running for seats on the Industrial and Commercial Panel.

Fine Gael's James Bannon, who lost his Dail seat in the general election, is also running for a seat on the Industrial and Commercial Panel.
