Moore Vision Opticians - Now open in at Market Point

The health and wellness hub that is Market Point Medical Park on Mullingar's Patrick Street has just gained a new tenant, Moore Vision Opticians owned by the delightful Éilis Moore FAOI BSc (Hons) Optometry.

At just 27, the Longford native who qualified five years ago from DIT's National Optometry Centre on Dublin's Kevin Street, has garnered a wealth of experience having worked in over 23 different practices across the country including time in a Laser and Cataract Clinic in Kildare.

Her new premises in Market Point Medical Park is spacious, modern and welcoming. The bright examination rooms and showroom are set in a relaxed atmosphere, owing in no small part to Éilis' bubbly personality, which everyone got the chance to experience at the official opening party on Saturday.

I've worked hard to get as much experience as possible, but it was always in my mind to own my own Practice, providing the best eye care service possible to the public, says Éilis. I feel you need not just clinical excellence to be a trusted health service provider but also a relaxed environment where you can build a relationship with your patients, which Market Point Medical Park helps to provide. Éilis who is married to a fellow Longford man Timmy Hegarty have both now made Westmeath their home, based between Ballymore and Moate, just over 20 minutes from Mullingar town.

Éilis opened Moore Vision Opticians on January 20, a day she will always remember, not least because it coincided with President Donald Trump's inauguration.

I have joined a lovely community of health care professionals here in Market Point Medical Park. John Keane's CarePlus Pharmacy is just across from my premises, as is Perfect Smiles Dentists, Back In Action Physiotherapy and just beside me is Sheila Briody's Scan Me Clinic, Suzanne Lynch's Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic and Dr. Gaines, Dr. Susan Orwa and Dr. Fagan’s offices. So far everyone has been lovely and very welcoming.

Rebecca Dale, Deirdre Cusack, Charlotte Maguire and Susan Carr from Perfect Smile called to wish Éilis Moore (centre) all the best with her new business Moore Vision Opticians at Market Point Medical Park.

More positives to the location is the fact that there is free front door parking, while the rooms and toilet facilities at Moore Vision Opticians are spacious and thus wheelchair accessible, with plenty of room for young mothers with buggies.

Personal service

I provide a highly extensive eye examination involving visual fields analysis, dry eye assessment, binocular vision assessment and the Gold standard in pressure measurements for Glaucoma (used by Ophthalmologists) in addition to your routine eye test.

During her studies, Éilis attended the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital and the Department of Ophthalmology in St Vincent's Hospital, as well as the Blackrock Clinic where she work-shadowed Ophthalmologists watching them perform cataract and laser surgery - all in a bid to gain as much experience as possible.

Patients are given a very professional and personal service, they're not rushed through the exam. Everything is explained thoroughly and I can show videos of different procedures and eye conditions to help clarify things further if needed. I've seen how different practices work, and I've applied the best practices here to make sure that the customer is always treated with respect and the best service. I want people to feel like they're really cared for, that they're not under pressure for time, or that they have to rush back to their car if they're out of time with the meter. Especially for older people who really want a thorough check and don't want to be rushed.

Glasses

Glasses, if chosen well and taking into account face shape and colouring, can enhance a person's overall look, and so Éilis is always searching out the latest designer frames, sunglasses and lens technologies. She also offers a broad range in safety eyewear, sports

eyewear, and kiddies frames.  They range in price from €59 upwards and all prices include your prescription lenses, so what you see on the lens is the price. Medical Card holders are entitled to a complete pair of free glasses or allowances towards designer frames. There are lots of options to suit everyone.

Since opening, Éilis has had a great response from the public, with lots of people popping in to say hello or have an eye exam. And I'm inviting everyone along on Saturday. It's an introduction of sorts, to let people know who I am. There will be finger food and spot prizes to celebrate the opening.

Eye Health

People get glasses for all sorts of reasons, says Éilis. They may or may not have a prescription, they might get glasses because they are very light sensitive. If you've been watching Big Brother, Nicola McLean is wearing glasses as she's suffering from light sensitivity. People wear the anti-glare glasses for things like artificial light, computers, driving at night and watching television. Then there's others who are extremely sensitive to daylight so they use Polaroids.

It's important to be able to gauge face shape and colouring to see what colour glasses suit them best. The client has to be confident in trusting you to pick a nice frame to suit them, they don't want somebody just sticking any old pair on their face. It's important because it's like a piece of jewellery on your face and you want it to enhance you, not take away from you.

Family

Since opening she's had a lot of support from family and friends, in particular her mum Elizabeth Moore, who many will know as a former Public Health Nurse in Mullingar. Her dad Gerry Moore was a Science and Maths Teacher so having both parents in the science field influenced Éilis in her career path. I've always enjoyed Science, Biology and Maths and

Optometry was a perfect blend of these subjects. I've acquired a great deal of knowledge and experience since qualifying. This gives me great confidence in providing everyone with the very best eye care and advice. Being my own boss means I can give more of my time and attention to my clients.

Eye health is so important. It is through the eye that many health conditions like Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol are picked up so everyone should have an eye exam at least every two years. While they may not need glasses, they will have peace of mind and be given the best advice to prolong good eyesight. It's also very important for primary and secondary school children to have their eyes checked, as poor vision can go unnoticed for some time and can be a contributory factor to holding them back in their studies.

Free

Éilis points out that there's free eye exams for PRSI and medical card holders. Nearly 80% of people have PRSI cover so they should come and have their free eye test. Non PRSI individuals pay €30 for my eye examinations.

My exam includes a visual fields analysis which would normally only be done for people who need a driving report or who present with a headache, but I believe it should be part and parcel of the normal eye exam.

Also a dry eye assessment is carried out. The dry eye assessment is so important because most people suffer from dry eyes due to working on computers all day, using their phones, working in an air conditioned environments or even from the heating in their car. It's just the way life is now.

Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, with late opening every Thursday and Friday until 8pm. For more information check out Moore Vision Opticians on Facebook, Tel: 044 93 40988 Email: info@moorevisionopticians.ie or drop in and talk to Éilis.
