Dog fouling policy

Cllr Ken Glynn, who was elected to Athlone/Mullingar RAPID Area Implementation Team at the last meeting of Mullingar Municipal District, asked if any progress had been made on the collection of fines for those who are not picking up ‘litter’ after their dogs.

“Are we going to start, because there’s an income to be gained from it?” he asked.

Council official Martin Murray said it was difficult to secure hard evidence of dog fouling.

“To get a witness to go to court and say I saw a so-and-so’s dog doing his business – that’s the difficulty,” replied Mr Martin.

“Well we’re going nowhere with our dog fouling policy then,” responded Cllr Glynn, “It’s not working.”
