Mullingar singer to perform live at New York parade

Mullingar singer Emmet Cahill has been announced as a live performer at this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in New York.

Mr Cahill announced on his official Facebook page yesterday, Saturday, that he will be performing.

“So proud and honoured,” he wrote.

Emmet, son of Martin and Carmel Cahill, is a past pupil of Scoil Bhríde, Mountnugent, Co Cavan and of Scoil Bhríde, Moontnugent.

He began voice coaching at seven years of age under tutor Dearbhla Conlon-Maloney, but his music education had begun at home with his father, a music teacher.

Emmet’s second level education was at St Finian’s College, where he was a student of the Schola Cantorum Music Scholarship Programme. He also played church organ and violin.

As well as receiving coaching from voice trainer Mary Brennan, Emmet studied for a BA degree in performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

A member of the group Celtic Thunder, Emmet has performed widely in the US, Canada and Australia as well as here at home.
