Mullingar man on Winning Streak this coming weekend

Denis Burke from Mullingar is to feature on Winning Streak this coming Saturday, September 30.

Denis (71) is playing on behalf of his wife of 47 years, Sylvia Burke, who will be watching from the audience.

Denis, who is Mullingar born and bred, spent seven years out of the country as a young man – having gone to Australia in 1970.

Both Denis and Sylvia’s boys, Matthew and Philip, were born in Australia and the family returned to Mullingar in 1977.

Denis is now retired, having had a stint owning his own business in the 1980s and then spent a number of years, until retirement, as a sales rep covering every road in Ireland!

Denis claims that he had a funny feeling all week about his three stars but was still shocked when a relative said that his wife’s name had been pulled out on Winning Streak.

A careful type, Denis doesn’t want to speculate what to do with any winnings but insists the family “won’t go mad” with any cash they get from the show.

The second episode of the new series of Winning Streak will be broadcast this Saturday at 8.15pm on RTÉ One, where presenters Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy will guide five players through the iconic show, which gives them the chance to win cash, cars and luxury holidays. One will get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to spin the Grand Prize Wheel with a maximum prize of €500,000.

The other four players chosen to participate in the second episode of this series are:

• Mark McDonnell from Cabra, Dublin 7

• Madeline Carthy from Strokestown, County Roscommon

• Cormac O’Driscoll from Aherla, County Cork

• Tom O’Sullivan from Clondalkin, Dublin 22.
