Joe Rooney is Fr Damo this Friday night in Mullingar.

Fr Damo's brings the Father Ted Experience to Mullingar this Friday night!

This Friday night, The Father Ted Experience featuring comedian Joe Rooney, aka Fr Damo, and music from Cronin, with their mix of “Oasis or Blur”, combined with fancy dress and audience participation, is coming to Mullingar.

Poor aul Fr Damo had his jeep stolen last week, from the Camden Street/South Circular Road area of Dublin, where Joe had been doing an interview for his popular podcast series. Along with the black Nissan X Trail, the gang took his clerical robes, and a nationwide appeal has since been put out for the stolen vehicle, which he only purchased a few months back, and the priest's suit!

Ever the professional, Joe is still looking forward to a great night here in town, one that promises plenty of laughs and witticisms, and speaking of Father Ted, Joe tells the Westmeath Examiner, “It’s something that’s really stood the test of time".

"The writing was so strong, so detailed and it worked on so many different levels. And the characters were just really funny. I mean I host Fr Ted quizzes, and there’s so many little things that the real ‘Fr Ted heads’ get, things like characters that were mentioned but never appeared.

“I have people coming up to me now that weren’t even born when the show first aired. It’s something that parents and kids watch together”

Rooney has become synonymous with his character Fr Damo. “When I did Fr Ted originally it was only the second series. When I got the job it wasn’t as big as it is now. I thought it was a good but obscure comedy on Channel 4.

“And even though I only did one episode, I am Fr Damo. It happens on the street, people call me Fr Damo.”

Joe is in high demand balancing his acting career with his comedy, having just finished a successful run at the Gaiety Theatre in The Chastitute, as well as featuring in Red Rock. You can catch him in Mullingar this Friday October 27, in The Fence, with The Father Ted Experience.
