Water restrictions for Horseleap, Kilbeggan, Ballinagore and Streamstown

Water restrictions are to be imposed in Kilbeggan, Horseleap, Ballinagore and Streamstown from 6pm this evening, Irish Water has announced.

They are to stay in force until 8am tomorrow morning.

Other areas also being affected are Athlone Town, Annagh, Baylin, Mount Temple and Ories.

As the water crisis resulting from the “Beast from the East” and “Storm Emma” grows, Irish Water is asking customers across Westmeath to conserve water.

“Supply is under pressure due to increase demand,” the firm has stated this afternoon.

Irish Water says that due to the extremely cold weather conditions and exceptionally high water demand, some water treatment plants in the county are struggling to keep up with supply demands. “All customers are being asked to conserve water to avoid reservoirs emptying and water pressure to homes and businesses being affected,” the firm said.

It continued by urging the public not to run taps unnecessarily, to take showers instead of baths and to refrain from using dishwashers and washing machines.
