Westmeath celebrating Crinniú na nÓg

A new national day of creativity for children and young people, Cruinniú na nÓg takes place on 23 June 2018

With the support of Creative Ireland, this Saturday children all around the country will be taking part in Crinniú na nÓg, offering opportunities to celebrate creativity among our young people.

In Westmeath, there are a range of events, including workshops and performances to encourage children to embrace their creativity and imagination.

Highlights include free performances:

Dance Delirium takes place from 3pm and offers a chance to see young dances from local dance schools perform in Mullingar Arts Centre

Áras an Mhuilinn will be hosting Ceolchoirm na nÓg from 3pm. This is a brilliant chance to celebrate traditional Irish music. The audience is encouraged to bring their instruments as there will be a chance for the audience to join in during part of the Ceolchoirm.

The Emerald Lakes will also have a free performance for an evening of Culture and Creativity in Rochfortbridge Parish Hall at 7.45pm.

There’s plenty for children who like to create art.

The Luan Gallery in Athlone will host Under the Sea; two workshops (11am-noon and noon-1pm) giving children the opportunity to create their own sea creatures, discover the ocean and learn about marine life in this fun arts and craft workshop, suitable for 4-12-year-olds.

The fun will continue throughout the afternoon as Athlone Castle hosts drop-in arts and crafts activities (2-4pm).

Children will become kings and queens for the afternoon, creating and decorating their very own medieval crown using paper, colours, gems, and stickers.

The Crane Bird Arts studio in Mullingar hosts two workshops, mixed media and clay modelling for 4-9-year-olds at 10.30am, and a special workshop for 10-16-year-olds on anime, illustration and cartoons at noon.

Check out your library on Saturday morning

Mullingar Library will also be hosting a special storytime with The Under the Bed Monsters at 11am.

Athlone Library will be fun of noise as the Mobile Music School brings workshops at 10.30am and 11.30am.

The Lithuanian Language school will also be hosting a folk dance session for the students in Áras an Chontae from 12-12.30. Drop in and join the fun.

Creative Ireland also supports coding and the Coder Dungeon in Delvin is hosting a special open day (3-6pm): not drop in and try your hand at coding or Lego making and check out some the video editing going on.
