Mullingar Choral Society member are looking forward to celebrating its 50-year anniversary in 2019 – the golden jubilee season opens on Monday September 3.

The 50th anniversary of any group or organisation is without doubt worthy of celebration. Mullingar Choral Society is preparing to celebrate its 50th season in 2019 and rehearsals for the new season begin on Monday September 3 at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Primary School, Mullingar.

“We are sending out an invitation to current members, former members and of course to anyone who would like to become a member of the choir to come and join us for what promises to be an exciting and enjoyable 50th anniversary season,” said Stephen Cummins, president, Mullingar Choral Society.

“We begin the new season with rehearsals starting on September 3. Our first performance of the anniversary season is in All Saints Church, Mullingar on Saturday October 20.

“Our annual Christmas concert is in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar on December 2 and the Fiftieth Anniversary Concert will take place on Sunday March 3, 2019 again in the Cathedral of Christ the King.”

The following is the proposed programme for the 50th Anniversary Concert: Gloria (Vivaldi); Song of the Universal (Ola Gjeilo); Slane (a new piece composed by the choir’s musical director Fergus O’Carroll for the anniversary).

Following the interval: O Fortuna (from Carmina Burana, Carl Orff); Sanctus and In Paradisum (Requiem, Faure); Gloria (Messa di Gloria, Puccini); Benedictus (The Armed Man, Jenkins); Christus Factus Est (Bruckner); Ave Maria (Schubert); Song of the Earth and Omnis Terra ( Jubilate Deo, Dan Forrest); Encore: Brindisi (La Traviata, Verdi).
