Bell Lane and Dead Centre to launch ‘Moondust' in Screggan this week

The National Ploughing Championships are in Screggan, Tullamore, next week and two artisan drinks producers from Westmeath will be among those showcasing their products to the predicted attendance of almost 300,000.

Bell Lane Coffee from Mullingar and Dead Centre Brewing, based in Athlone, will both be at the event serving locally-produced products, and they have also joined forces to produce a limited-edition coffee porter called Moondust.

Bell Lane was a dream that sprang into life for Stephen and Denise Bell in 2012, after business and a passion for great coffee combined.

After meeting a master roaster, they set to work creating a range of signature coffees, all hand-roasted in small batches in Mullingar.

Dead Centre Brewing Company is establishing itself as the first craft brewery in Westmeath. In 2017 Dead Centre launched its first beer, Marooned Oatmeal IPA, which is made using Kilbeggan organic oats.

Dead Centre's beers are currently being produced under contract at St Mel's Brewing Company in Longford, but construction work is under way on its brewery in the former Ritz restaurant premises in Athlone.

Having already secured a nationwide listing with O’Brien’s Wines, and with export to the UK commencing soon, Dead Centre Brewing founder Liam Tutty said he’s thrilled to able to launch a new beer in collaboration with Bell Lane.

“Stephen and Denise in Bell Lane Coffee have been a pleasure to work with. The beer we’re releasing together at the National Ploughing Championships is our first dark beer so we wanted to do something spectacular,” he said.

“Their talented coffee quality manager, Niko, has used their Moondust coffee blend to cold brew a deep and complex addition for our limited-edition porter. The product tastes great and after the Ploughing Championships we’ll be releasing a very limited run of 440ml cans.”

The National Ploughing Championships run from September 18 to 20, and more information is available from www.npa.ie
