Mullingar shows vital community spirit in aftermath of Lakepoint fire

The community spirit that is such an important part of towns like Mullingar is coming to the fore this week in the aftermath of the fire in Lakepoint.

As well as fundraising pages and offers of help with the necessities, the residents association in the estate is doing what it can to help the families affected.

The association posted this note on its Facebook page:

“Hi all. The residents association would like to say we are so sorry to all involved in the aftermath of a traumatic night.

“The Duncan family have said that they would like to be able to find a four-bedroom house to rent in Lakepoint and stay in the community that has blown them away with all the support.

“If you know of a house up for rent or coming up for rent.

“Or if you are a landlord and can help this family who has lost their home, please contact us or the family and rent it to them.

“It would and will make a bad situation just a little easier for them at these early stages.

“There must be one landlord that can rent a house.

“Or maybe you have a house for sale and can wait a year and want rental income.

“Make it happen folks, ask, probe and question.

“The residents Association will be doing a door to door collection in the following days.

“We will post here officially before it starts.”
