Mullingar Courthouse officially opened

The new Mullingar Courthouse was officially opened today by Minister for Justice and Equality Mr Charlie Flanagan TD, following a redevelopment project by contractors BAM under a public-private partnership arrangement.

The contractor refurbished and extended the existing courthouse at Mount Street, Mullingar, to include three courtrooms, improved custody facilities and court offices.

Mullingar Courthouse is the final project by BAM in the €149m Courts Bundle PPP that includes restoration, renovations and builds at seven courthouses in Ireland.

The contract also provides for the 25-year facility management of each courthouse.

Mullingar courthouse was redeveloped around the existing structure, which was built between circa 1824 and 1828.

Speaking at the opening, CEO of BAM Ireland Theo Cullinane, said: “Our team has done exceptional work in preserving the original character of the courthouse while bringing the facilities up to date with the 21st century.

“As it is a landmark building in the heart of Mullingar, it was important that we delivered a project of which the community can be proud.

“Throughout the Courts PPP we have been working to enhance court services and facilities around the country and we’re pleased to deliver another first-class project.”

Mullingar Courthouse is the latest significant project to be completed by BAM in the town – BAM previously developed the €17m Mullingar Wastewater Treatment Works on behalf on Westmeath County Council.
