Temporary traffic lights to return to town centre

Temporary traffic lights are set to return to Mullingar town centre for four consecutive weeks it emerged at yesterday's meeting of Mullingar Municipal District.

The one-way street at Blackhall, alongside Galvins and Mojo's, will also close for five weeks following St Patrick's weekend.

The works schedule for the coming month involves works at the junction of Castle Street and Pearse Street (south).

It also includes pedestrian crossings at Castle Street and Pearse Street junction.

Temporary traffic signals are scheduled to be installed in the last week in March at all four approaches to the junction and will be in place for up to four weeks.

These are permanent granite set crossings which will have to be done a half road width at a time to minimise traffic disruption.

Works will also begin on the Market Square in early April after Dominick Square is complete.

According to engineer Pat Keating, the contractor is maintaining access for pedestrians and vehicles at all times and is working with traders to minimise the inconvenience to local residents, businesses and visitors while carrying out the works in a safe and efficient manner.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes where possible.

The Council wish to thank businesses and the wider community for their patience and support during this important development project.
