Penrose keeps up pressure for secondary school in Kinnegad

Labour Party TD for Westmeath, Willie Penrose has once again raised the issue of the provision of a secondary school in Kinnegad. 

Deputy Penrose said: “Kinnegad is the third largest town in Westmeath and with one of the most densely populated primary schools in the country, St Etchen’s.

“Kinnegad has experienced a huge increase in population growth in the past fifteen years with more than 3,000 people living in the immediate area.

“The community are eager to secure a secondary school for the hundreds of young people in the area who have to leave each morning and travel considerable distances to get their second level education.

“My colleague Denis Leonard has been very vocal on this issue and has highlighted that there is suitable land zoned for educational use in Kinnegad.

“This week I received a response from Minister for Education and Skills that said that the decision to build a post-primary school in Kinnegad will be kept under review.

“Along with my colleague Denis Leonard, I will continue to put pressure on Minister Joe McHugh to ensure this vital project is delivered for the young people and families in Kinnegad.”
