Campaigners to walk route of powerline for planned windfarm

This Sunday, June 16, members of North Westmeath Turbine Action Group (NWTAG) host a sponsored walk from Coole to Multyfarnham to raise funds to fight the plans by Statkraft to erect 13 175-m turbines on bog in the Coole area. Explaining the purpose of the walk NWTAG chairperson Jen Gallagher said: “Most residents, particularly those from Multyfarnham, are genuinely unaware that a high powered line will be put in below ground stretching from Coole to Multyfarnham then on to Irishtown in Mullingar, where there is an existing substation.

“Roads and paths will need to be dug up from one end of the route to the other to allow for the installation of high energy lines. We are walking along a section of that route to raise awareness to where the proposed grid connection is going and to raise funds for the judicial review which in the coming months.

“The walk is on Sunday 16 June starting from Coole Hall or Multyfarnham with participants to meet at 2.30pm to start the walk at 3pm. Walkers can start either in Coole or Multyfarnham and meet in the middle. It is 6km to the halfway.”
