Rochfortbridge man’s family ‘overwhelmed’ by support as search goes on

The family of Rochfortbridge father Peter Wilson, who went missing in Tenerife nearly three months ago, have said that they are overwhelmed by the support they have received.

Mr Wilson (32) went missing on March 23 a little over 24 hours after he arrived on the holiday island.

His distraught family and friends launched a campaign last month to raise funds for the ongoing search efforts for the father of two.

Already, a number of events organised locally have been held, including a five-a-side football competition on May 26, a benefit night in Bagnall's in Rochfortbridge on June 7 and a sponsored truck run on June 16.

On June 21, there was a benefit night in Clarke's Bar in Mullingar and on Thursday of this week, June 27, a textile collection is taking place in Derrygreenagh Park, the estate where Mr Wilson was raised.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, cousin Gary McGivney said that the Wilson family have been "overwhelmed" by the level of support they have received.

"The response from the community in Rochfortbridge and even in Mullingar has been fabulous,” said Gary.

“While it is hard for them [Mr Wilson's parents], they are getting a bit of comfort from the level of support they are receiving."

In a post on the crowdfunding GoFundMe website where over €6,000 has been raised, Mr McGivney said that Mr Wilson's family "do not believe he went missing by choice".

"He does not have money, he had left his room without his passport and belongings and never returned,” Mr McGivney pointed out.

He continued: "Peter is a daddy to two beautiful little girls. He is a loved son, brother, cousin and friend to many.

“His family are so concerned for him.

"This page is set up to support the ongoing efforts to find Peter and bring him home.

"We do not know how much funding is needed. We can just hope that we will find him soon."
