Troy meets IDA to push for Mullingar

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Business, Enterprise and Innovation and TD for Longford-Westmeath, Robert Troy, has met with IDA CEO Martin Shanahan and Head of Regional Development Denis Curran.

“I was pleased to meet with Martin and Denis to properly explore the challenges and opportunities facing Ireland as a result of Brexit,” said Deputy Troy.

"Let me be clear, Brexit will have a negative impact on our economy, but there may be a possibility that we could attract new foreign direct investment companies, which need a new European base,” said Deputy Troy.

“I used the opportunity to raise the issue of Marlinstown Business Park and the government’s failure to attract any business other than Patterson Pumps to date.

"I strongly put the need for the IDA to provide an advanced manufacturing facility on site to help increase the attractiveness for companies looking for a location to locate. This policy has been used by IDA elsewhere and has proven to be successful.

“I also pressed the need for them to consider Mullingar as a remote working hub of scale. I assured the IDA as the lead party on Westmeath County Council that we remain positively disposed to working with them to progress these issues.”
