Three Mullingar authors feature in Irish Book Awards 2019

The literary pedigree of Mullingar is top quality.

James Joyce featured the town in his novels and spent at least one summer here.

JP Donleavy, whose best known work is The Ginger Man, choose to live out his days here, and in recent times Patricia Gibney’s detective novels have put ‘Ragmullin’ (based on guess where) on the map with more than 1,000,000 sales.

A debut novel in the last year from Anne Griffin is doing well in the charts and Bressie has been in the top selling list more than once.

In this year’s An Post Book Awards, there are three books by Mullingar authors on the shortlist.

Anne Griffin’s ‘When All Is Said And Done’ has been nominated in two categories – National Book Tokens Popular Fiction book of the year and the Sunday Independent newcomer of the year.

Pat Marry ‘The Making Of A Detective’, a factual recount of his life as a detective, has been nominated in the Ireland AM popular non-fiction book of the year category.

Niall Breslin’s ‘Take Five’ has been nominated in Specsavers Children’s Book of the Year (Junior) category.

Voting is now open and closes at 6pm on Wednesday November 13.
