Kinnegad dentist is Leinster’s best

A Kinnegad-based dentist has been named Leinster Dentist of the Year for 2019.

Dr Marcella Torres Leavy claimed the Leinster award for her considerate and empathetic approach in treating an extended family.

The woman who nominated her said her elderly father had let his oral hygiene go but this all changed when he began visiting Dr Torres Leavy.

“He is now beaming and delighted with his treatment,” she said.

She said her son has an autism related disorder and found going to the dentist difficult. However he now feels very relaxed and at ease when visiting Marcella.

“This is all due to Marcella’s understanding and great communication skills – whatever the age group or condition of her patients – and her fantastic team who are always so helpful,” she said.

Dr Torres Leavy, who is originally from Guatemala, practised in Tullamore and Mullingar before setting up her own practice. She said she was thrilled to receive the award, but added that it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of her fantastic team at Kinnegad Dental.

“I couldn’t be more proud. I set up the practice seven years ago – the first dental practice in Kinnegad – and we were made so welcome. Since then it’s been an amazing journey and we haven’t looked back. Thank you to all our wonderful patients and all the supporters we’ve met along the way, especially our partners here in Kinnegad Primary Care Centre “

The awards, which were sponsored by Colgate, were attended by over 360 people at the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road on Saturday night. They enable patients to nominate dentists who have provided them with dental care above and beyond their expectations. The Irish Dental Association received over 1,000 nominations from dental patients all over the country for this year’s awards.
