Westmeath County Council Preparations for Storm Brendan

In response to Storm Brendan tracking to the northwest of Ireland, Met Éireann has issued a nationwide status orange weather warning for strong winds.

This warning is valid for Leinster from 08:00 Monday 13/01/2020 to 15:00 Monday 13/01/2020.

A status orange warning indicates infrequent and dangerous weather conditions which may pose a threat to life and property. Disruption to travel and localised structural damage is possible as these winds affect the country.

Be aware about meteorological conditions and check if you are exposed to danger by nature of your activity or your specific location. Cancel or postpone activities or events as appropriate. Do not take any avoidable risks.

Based on current Met Eireann forecasts, the storm, particularly in terms of wind but also rain, will pass across County Westmeath between 11.00am and 2.00 pm today.

Westmeath County Council continues to monitor the situation and preparations are in place to address localised issues.

Council crews will be on standby to respond to incidents as and when the need arises.

An emergency number is available, including outside of office hours, and can be accessed through 044 933 2000.
