Jane Nangle and Katie Coleman, two local college students, are travelling to Uganda, Africa in June to volunteer with an Irish founded charity called Nurture Africa.

Both girls are studying in Dublin – Jane is a student nurse at UCD, and Katie is studying teaching in DCU.

Jane, who is from Ringtown, plays camogie for Lough Lene Gaels and Katie plays for Raharney.

Jane and Katie are volunteering with Nurture Africa as part of the General Skills programme under which their role as volunteers will involve working with partner schools in Uganda, participating in community projects such as house maintenance and home visits to local people.

Their volunteering journey starts at home, however, within the community of Westmeath as the girls have to raise €5,000 prior to their three-week placement in Uganda on behalf of the charity to pay for Nurture Africa’s ongoing projects.

One of Jane and Katie’s fundraising events is a quiz night at Ringtown GAA clubhouse at 9pm on Saturday February 22. Tables of 4 people at €40 per table. There will be a raffle and refreshments on the night.

“All support is greatly appreciated!” the girls said.
