HSE 'expecting PPE delivery in coming days'

The availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers was the subject of much debate at Dáil Éireann today.

There have been calls on social media for businesses that have supplies of PPE, such as gloves, masks, goggles or gowns, to donate them to hospitals.

Officially, the HSE has to be careful about what it can accept.

A spokesperson for the HSE told the Westmeath Examiner: “The HSE is receiving a large volume of PPE offers from private companies and ex-pats each day.

“The HSE must conduct due diligence on each product offered, to ensure it is fit for purpose and that it meets the standard for health service PPE as set out by the WHO.

“The HSE nationally is expecting a PPE delivery in the coming days.”
