Round-robin format revealed as ladies await June 30 draw

The Ladies’ Gaelic Football Association has decided the format for the 2020 TG4 All-Ireland ladies’ intermediate football championship, which will be contested by Westmeath.

Sean Finnegan’s charges, who were relegated from the top tier last autumn, are one of the seeded teams, along with neighbouring Meath, who lost the 2019 All-Ireland intermediate final to Tipperary. Roscommon and Sligo are also among the seeded teams.

The championship will be contested by 13 teams in all, with three groups of three and one group of four.

The top team in each group will progress to the championship semi-finals, with Westmeath aiming to recover the Mary Quinn Memorial Cup which they last won in 2011.

The LGFA championship draws will take place on Tuesday evening, June 30.

It is envisaged that each championship will be played off over seven weekends, with a two-week break between the conclusion of the group phases and the All-Ireland semi-finals, and a further two-week break between the semi-finals and finals.

The dates for the round-robin fixtures, and the All-Ireland semi-finals and finals, will be agreed upon and circulated in due course.

Further details relating to the running of the championships will also be finalised shortly.
