Enda and Emma Morris ran a fundraiser in the hope of raising funds for the North Westmeath Hospice.

Since 1994 the North Westmeath Hospice has been providing quality palliative care services to people with terminal or life limiting illnesses and to support families who have lost loved ones.

One of the people they so kindly cared for was their auntie Ettie and that was their main reason for choosing this particular charity.

Enda and Emma said: “We wanted to remember her while helping other families who need these services during these difficult times.

"This organisation is continuing to provide the same level of care and services to people despite a drop in income since Covid-19.

“We decided to host a ‘Guess the Number of Sweets in the Jar’ competition. All people had to do was guess the number of sweets in the jar, make a donation and put their guess after their name.

"There was a hamper worth over €450up for grabs and Elaine Byrne was the winner.

“We want to thank so many local businesses that, without hesitation, donated generous spot prizes for the winning hamper."

The hamper includes the following:

€100 voucher for Specsavers, Mullingar;

€20 voucher for the Chip Shop, Mullingar;

€50 voucher for Clarke’s Bar, Mullingar;

€25 voucher for James Maguire and Sons Family Butchers;

€40 voucher for Swarbrigg’s Shoe Shop;

€40 voucher for Fagan’s Mullingar; Bottle of Prosecco, sponsored by The Old Stand;

voucher for White Angels Hair Salon;

voucher for a gel polish manicure for LL Nail and Beauty (Lauren Leahy);

Black and Decker Drill and Toolbox, sponsored by Smyth’s Hardware, Mullingar;

€50 voucher for Bricks 4 Kidz;

€20 Dapper Shams barber voucher and €25 hair products.

The jar of sweets and some additional goodies including wine were sponsored by Vinny’s Taxi.

Thank you to KK Bargain Balloons for making up the hamper so nicely.

The competition ran for six days and raised a total of €3,140.
