O'Rourke wants junior ministries for Troy and Burke

Mary O'Rourke says that both Robert Troy and Peter Burke should be appointed junior ministers this evening.

Most political observers are predicting that Ballynacargy native Troy is in the mix for one of Fianna Fail's seven junior ministries. Following a strong performance during his first Dáil term, many are also saying that Burke could be one of the seven chosen by Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar.

Speaking on Midlands 103 today, former minister for education O'Rourke said that both Westmeath deputies deserve promotions.

“Longford Westmeath is a big constituency, the midlands is a big area and I would particularly like to see Robert Troy [get a junior ministry]. I have no doubt that both Micheal Martin and Leo Varadkar will find it in their minds to appoint both of them to junior minister status.”

It is believed that an announcement will be made after this afternoon's meeting of the Cabinet.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner earlier this week, Deputy Burke said that he had a “slight chance” of receiving a junior ministry, while Deputy Troy noted that in his own party there were “quite a few competent and capable candidates vying for similar positions”.
