Westmeath firms part of cluster set to represent Ireland

A network of engineering firms across the midlands – including several from Mullingar and Athlone ” has been selected to represent Ireland at the European Enterprise Promotion Awards 2020.

The “Engenuity Engineering Cluster Midlands” has been selected by Enterprise Ireland to represent Ireland at the European Enterprise Promotion Awards 2020.

It was named this week alongside the South Dublin “Business Support Funds” as Ireland’s representatives at the awards, which aim to reward innovative initiatives from public bodies and public-private partnerships which support entrepreneurship, and small and medium sized enterprises.

Engenuity Engineering Cluster Midlands was submitted by LEO Westmeath for ‘Investing in Entrepreneurial Skills’ category.

The Mullingar firms that are part of Engenuity are Strikebox Engineering, Serchek and Ascension Renewables.

Twenty engineering firms based in the Midlands are part of the Engenuity cluster, and according to Enterprise Ireland, the participating companies have seen increased turnover and a growth in exports, with the result that 70% of the participating companies have created new jobs..

The jury will select a European shortlist from amongst the national winners which will be announced in September. The shortlisted projects will go on to compete at the finals which will take place as part of the SME Assembly in November 2020 in Berlin, Germany.
