Two more Covid related deaths

There have been another two Covid-19 related deaths and 14 more confirmed cases of the virus, it was announced this evening.

The two latest deaths brings the total number of fatalities related to the virus up to 1,748, while there is now 25,683 confirmed cases. The number of confirmed cases in Westmeath remains at 676.

Speaking at this evening's briefing, Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said:"We are at a sensitive stage in the pandemic - this requires caution and collective effort to hold firm and keep the virus suppressed in the community. Continue to follow public health advice."

Earlier today it emerged that the wearing of face masks is expected to be made compulsory in indoor public spaces. It also emerged that pubs that do not serve substantial meals will remain shut until at least August 10.

The Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) says the Government decision to postpone the planned reopening of pubs next Monday is a “shocking development that will have huge ramifications for family-run pubs across Ireland”.
