Knockout feast looms as Westmeath quarter-finals are confirmed

A feast of knockout club football action beckons in Westmeath next weekend - with no less than 12 championship quarter-finals down for decision.

In addition, relegation play-off 'semi-finals' will take place in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior 1 football championships.

Last night (Sunday), the race for the Flanagan Cup (pictured above) was whittled down to eight teams, as the final Westmeath SFC quarter-final place was decided when Tyrrellspass defeated Shandonagh, 0-12 to 1-7.

The Downs had clinched their place in the last eight at Castledaly's expense earlier in the day.

Athlone scraped into the quarter-finals with a draw against Caulry on Saturday night - see more details HERE

In the Westmeath Intermediate FC, Maryland had six points to spare against Kilbeggan Shamrocks at Páirc Chiaráin yesterday, thereby setting up a quarter-final against Moate All Whites.

The SFC relegation semi-finals will feature two local derbies - Castledaly v Caulry and Mullingar Shamrocks v Shandonagh, with the two losers to play each other in the final relegation play-off.
