Drumraney 3-4 St Brigid’s 1-8

Drumraney had to withstand a late St Brigid’s comeback before emerging as worthy winners of today’s entertaining Westmeath junior camogie final, played on a resplendent surface in sunny, if somewhat cold, conditions at Joristown.

The south Westmeath team were dominant for much of the first half and went in at the break with what proved to be an insurmountable 3-2 to 0-5 lead. The goals came from Lorraine Duncan, Aisling McLoughlin and a penalty from player of the match Chloe Butler.

Drumraney started the second half as they ended the first and extended their lead by two points, courtesy of Anne Marie Moran and Aoife McCormack.

While it looked at this stage that a hammering awaited the girls in saffron and white, St Brigid’s roused themselves and dominated the last quarter scoring an unanswered 1-3.

Drumraney, however, showed admirable resolve to hold on for a win that their first half performance merited.
