Weather: Cloudy start but brighter afternoon

Cloudy at first with showery outbreaks of rain but brightening up through the afternoon with further showers.

The latest weather forecast from Met Éireann gives for more prolonged showers, which will move in across northwestern areas in the evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

Fresh northwest winds will back southwesterly through the day.

Tonight a band of heavy showers will push southeastwards across the province overnight with fresh to strong southwesterly winds, possible reaching gale force along some coasts. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees.

Tomorrow Friday will be bright and blustery with sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.

The national outlook is for conditions becoming more settled over the weekend with a lot of dry weather.

On Friday night showers will continue in Ulster and Connacht overnight. Elsewhere will be dry with long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees with a moderate westerly breeze.

Saturday is forecast to be a largely dry and bright day with scattered light showers. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees in a light to moderate northwest breeze. It's promised largely clear and dry again on Saturday night with lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.

Sunday is looking like another largely dry day. A bright start will give way to a cloudier afternoon. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees in a light northwesterly or variable breeze. Cloud will thicken from the Atlantic in the evening with outbreaks of rain sweeping across the country on Sunday night. Lows of 6 to 9 degrees.

Next Week

The rain will clear eastern areas early on Monday and it will become largely dry and settled through to mid-next week but remaining cool for the time of year.
