Westmeath’s Leinster SFC opener to be shown on Sky

Westmeath’s daunting Leinster SFC opener against reigning provincial and All-Ireland champions Dublin is to be televised live by Sky Sports next month.

Jack Cooney’s charges were drawn against the Metropolitans – now in the hunt for a sixth All-Ireland in a row – last October, but so much has happened since, with the Covid-19 outbreak casting doubts on any sport taking place at one stage.

While cases are on the rise again, elite sports have the green light for now, and on Saturday November 7, Westmeath will meet Dublin – now managed by Dessie Farrell – in an attempt to pull off a shock of all shocks.

The match is likely to take place in Tullamore, despite the best efforts of Westmeath GAA county board to secure Mullingar as the venue.

It will be shown on Sky Sports Mix at 6.15pm on November 7, and is one of 14 championship fixtures being aired by Sky in the coming months.
