Music Town gets a record shop

Keith Marshall was pleased with his first day of business at 3345 Records on Mount Street, this evening.

Many consider Mullingar to be 'Music Town' but it hasn't had a dedicated record shop for some years, and that's a gap Keith aims to fill.

He has worked in record shops for 22 years, so he knows what he's about.

"I started a website during the lockdown - that's being going pretty well - and I packed in my job to do this," Keith told the Westmeath Examiner this evening as customers browsed happily - and one was so pleased he even dropped in a few cans for the proprietor to relax with later on!

Keith was a manager for Golden Discs for the last 10 years, in Mullingar, Athlone and Newbridge, and he decided to give it a go for himself.

"It's a great town for music, there's a lot of great bands, Bobby and the Blunts, the Cronin boys, the Blizzards - there's a lot of great music in town.

"I worked as a DJ for many years, and there's a lively DJ community in town as well."

Originally from Sligo, Keith has lived in Mullingar for 16 years, and says: "There's such a good scene, it seems a shame there's no music shop, so I took a chance on this."

3345 Records will be open Monday to Saturday, 10.30am-6pm.

We asked Keith for a listening recommendation, and here's what he suggested:
