Hurricane Epsilon a cause for concern here

Our weather looks set to become very disturbed over the coming 7-10 days as numerous deep Atlantic storm depression are expected to develop throughout the east Atlantic.

That's according to Ireland Weather Channel's Cathal Nolan who is concerned about Hurricane Epsilon, which is currently off the coast of Bermuda.

"Hurricane Epsilon is expected to become picked up by a strong jet stream over the weekend before transitioning into a very powerful Atlantic post-tropical depression with possibly one of the lowest central pressure readings in the past two centuries before.

"The storm then is expected to push north eastwards some 300-500 km off the west coast next Tuesday, however such is its strength and depth that some impacts are likely across Ireland.

"It’s likely that Ireland will experience heavy rain, strong to gale force winds in excess of 100km/h in some parts, with a significant sea swell possibly in excess of 14 metres off the west coast," he said.

In the meantime, Met Éireann is forecasting a generally cloudy day today, Wednesday.

Rain will become more persistent over the northwest later this evening.

Northwesterly winds freshening through the day with highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees, mildest in the southeast.

Tonight it will turn rather chilly with minimum temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees.

Northwest breezes remaining fresh in northeastern areas, but easing elsewhere overnight.

Thursday looks set to begin cold and dry with some sunshine for the morning.
