Case numbers at lowest in last 18 days

Ireland has had the lowest number of new COVID-19 cases reported in 18 days today.

Figures released this evening show there were 720 new confirmed cases during Monday - it's the lowest daily tally since the 617 cases notified during Thursday, October 8.

However, there has been five additional deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland to 1,890.

Of the 720 new confirmed cases, 65% are under 45 years of age and the median age is 32 years old

228 of the cases are in Dublin, 130 in Cork, 47 in Galway, 31 in Meath, 27 in Limerick and the remaining 257 cases are spread across another 20 counties.

As of 2pm today 341 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 38 are in ICU. 29 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

There is now a total of 58,767 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

There were 13 new cases reported in Westmeath and less than five in Roscommon.

There have now been 1,316 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Westmeath and between 729 and 734 confirmed cases in Roscommon. The figure will not be clear until tomorrow night as the Department will not specify the daily number of cases for a county if it is fewer than five.
